Hambone Style Pictures of the Week - 5/22/06

Here are some sweet pics from our latest adventure up in the Sierra Nevada range. We did a two-day 15mile trek along the Pacific Coast Trail (PCT) from Sugar Bowl ski resort to Squaw Valley ski resort. We camped overnight on Saturday in the snow at about 8,500 ft. It was terribly exhausting but fun as hell and good practice for climing Mount Shasta (14,000ft) this summer.

The top picture is where we camped in a cloud on top of maybe 30ft of snow. We had to dig out the snow to flatten the space and give outselves some wind protection. We spent the next few hours eating cold pizza, melting snow for water, and having a glass of brandy for relief. Here in the picture Dean and I were melting snow with our tents as a back drop. The Trango my bro got me for Christmas is on the left. Thanks Matt.

The second picture is a shot of some black bear foot prints we saw alont the ridge. My guess is that the bear had recently come out of hibernation due the to warm weather and was out and about looking for food. Luckly he didn't find our food.

The third picture is a view from the ridge that we skied across. The snow was incredibly deep and we were really just sking across a huge cornice most of the time which at points was unsettling.
